After a limb is amputated, it isn’t just thrown out at a dump.  For health safety reasons, it’s sent out to be incinerated (heated to the point that it’s turned to ashes) with other medical waste.  In some cases, like that of Billy Brimblecom, prior to disposal, the limb may be sent out for medical testing called pathology.

In cases like Billy’s, pathology is important in helping to determine whether treatments such as chemotherapy have been effective and the level of likelihood that cancer has spread to other areas of the body.
